May 2025 | reSpace
This May, reSpace reached a critical milestone in our journey to reimagine homeownership. With media spotlighting our model, community demand surging, and construction at The Grove about to begin, we’ve entered a new phase—moving from planning to doing.
What was once a vision is now a project breaking ground. What began as a model is now a movement.
In the Spotlight: Media Coverage & Public Momentum
May began with a radio appearance by reSpace Founder and CEO Katrina Eileen Romatowski on Voices of Experience, hosted by business author Paul E. Casey on KKNW 1150. The segment spotlighted reSpace’s innovative approach to homeownership and how it offers a bold alternative to the traditional model.
Just a week later, The Seattle Times featured reSpace in a front-page, double-spread article exploring co-homeownership, shared living, and new models of equity. The coverage sparked widespread engagement, from potential buyers to policymakers, all eager to be part of something transformational.
Coming soon: reSpace will be featured in the Puget Sound Business Journal with a closer look at our growth trajectory and impact on the future of housing in the Pacific Northwest.
The Grove: Construction Begins June
We’re gearing up to break ground at The Grove in Ballard on June 2. With pre-construction activity already underway, we’re on track to begin site work following final utility disconnections and permitting.
The Grove will be reSpace’s flagship co-homeownership community, combining luxury, sustainability, and shared equity in one of Seattle’s most desirable neighborhoods.
reSpace Reveal: Sold-Out Success
Our first-ever reSpace Reveal—an immersive Augmented and Virtual Reality experience of The Grove before it’s built—reached capacity and exceeded expectations. Attendees walked through the property in spatial AR, gaining an up-close look at how co-homeownership can live and breathe.
Powered by tkei, the spatial computing platform from The Little Things AI, the event created buzz, built a waiting list, and set the stage for future Reveal experiences.

Policy & Public Strategy: Laying New Groundwork
We’re strengthening relationships with civic leaders across Washington—from Mayor Bruce Harrell’s Housing Now team in Seattle to housing strategists in Bellevue. This month, reSpace advanced key advocacy priorities:
-Exploring public land opportunities for shared housing development
-Supporting streamlined permitting for small-scale, affordable infill projects
-Working to qualify co-homeownership models for public funding opportunities
We’re also in conversation with state agencies and nonprofits to explore pilot projects, grant opportunities, and broader systemic support for this new category of housing.
Team Expansion: Leadership to Match the Moment
May brought several exceptional professionals onto the reSpace team, each bringing deep expertise and alignment with our mission:
Cheri Brennan, Director of PR & Communications: Cheri brings 30+ years of experience in media, real estate, and civic affairs, including roles with the Seattle Chamber, NWMLS, and Seattle King County REALTORS®.
Kathy Burnaman, Director of Operations: Former COO of Primary Properties LLC, Kathy leads with sharp strategy and construction oversight, translating development plans into scalable systems.
Anthony Avery, Strategic Advisor: A U.S. Navy veteran, urban planner, and real estate broker, Anthony is the founder of West Seattle Bike Dad and a champion for sustainable, car-lite living.
We also send our warmest thanks and best wishes to Lauren Rowe, who is stepping away to pursue a career in esthetics. Lauren has been a valued member of the team and a steady presence in our early growth.
